Decatur, Georgia When the 140 residents of the East Lake Commons co-housing project came together in 1999, one of the things they wanted for their alternative living project was a sustainable relationship to the land cleared for the project. Epsten Group designed a landscape plan for the 20 acre urban village in DeKalb County. The site features an organic farm operated by a professional farmer, and a landscape design emphasizing native plantings. The design addresses the functions desired by the neighborhoods, including sitting nodes, playgrounds, village areas for socializing, walkways, and gardens. Epsten Group lined the streets with native trees to create boulevards with a small-town feel. |
