 UNC, Chapel Hill, North Carolina The Visitor Education Center sets a new standard for environmentally friendly public buildings in North Carolina. Designed by architect Frank Harmon, the 30,000 sq. ft. facility serves as a center of teaching and learning. Epsten Group is the building envelope commissioning agent. The scope includes design reviews and a commissioning plan for the envelope systems, which include stucco walls, siding walls, various below-ground basement and crawl space walls, bridge and porch transitions, standing seam roof panels, a photovoltaic system, and clerestory windows. The project is pursuing the first LEED-NC Platinum certification for North Carolina and may achieve a LEED Innovation Credit for Envelope Commissioning. |
