 Atlanta, Georgia The Parakeet Walkabout is a new exhibit at Zoo Atlanta which gives visitors the opportunity to interact with close to 3,000 colorful Australian parakeets. The project includes an entry pavilion with a retail shop offering seed sticks for parakeet feeding, cameras, and souvenirs. The aviary itself is a 2,400 square foot mesh enclosed cable structure with a naturalistic contoured concrete slab and a prominent central water feature. At the rear of the site is a bird holding building meant to serve both the parakeets and flightless birds that may be added to the project at a later date. Epsten Group worked closely with the keepers at Zoo Atlanta to design a project that is as sensitive to the safety of its residents as it is to the enjoyment of its guests. |
